D D Don't Believe the Hype?
Sunday, November 15, 2009 at 11:24AM In case you have been on Planet DialUp for the last few days, here is a recap of this week's viral vomit:
1. Video appears of a Bugatti Veyron being dragged out of two foot of saltwater from an American lagoon. Driver leaves the engine running (presumably because the air intakes are on the top and he quite correctly thinks it will give it a chance to avoid flooding).
2. Said driver blames the mishap on a low flying pelican.
3. The video gets reposted everywhere. This is fine, but there do
seem to be an awful lot of laughing at the misfortune saying he is an idiot and also stupid for leaving the engine running (what are you supposed to do when driving through a ford hmm?).
Fair enough if he crashed due to being on the phone, but if you were a billionaire would you buy a Veyron? Is there a touch of jealousy at play here?
4. Another video appears that actually manages to have captured the crash footage. It features whooping and hollering Americans who use the word 'dude'.
5. Said incident is now said to be a hoax, the Veyron driver apparently runs a supercar salvage company and wanted publicity. Which is slightly believable as the fact it was caught on camera is pretty coincidental. But... really?
So what do you believe? I find the whole debarcle just a bit too much and have resisited the temptation to post videos. However this picture made me chuckle and this is the side I'll take for now.
